University of Virginia's Rapid Prototyping Lab (RPL)
Located in the Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering, within the School of Engineering and Applied Science. The RPL is a state-of-the-art advanced manufacturing facility that provides Computer-Aided Design, FDM 3D Printing, and Poly-Jet 3D Printing services to our students, faculty, staff, and external clients. We welcome sponsored research projects and grant collaborations.
Fused Deposition Modeling (FDM)
3D printing parts created layer by layer using real thermoplastics. With FDM, you can create complex geometries that would be next to impossible using traditional manufacturing methods.

3D Printing creates models and prototypes that set a new standard for finished-product realism. Our process jets ultra-thin layers of liquid photopolymer to create the most complex shapes, fine details and smooth surfaces. Even combine two materials in one print to get the benefits of both.
