MAE Machine Shops

The Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering (MAE) Shops offer access to advanced tooling for research groups. Each shop includes a wide variety of machining equipment and offers support for research and educational projects throughout the School of Engineering and Applied Science. If you would like to use the support offered by the shops the online request form should be completed and delivered to Lewis Steva (Director of the MAE Shops) in Room B021 in the Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering Building. Costs and estimated times will be provided after an in person meeting. 


Hours: 7:30 AM - 4:00 PM

Locations:

  • Room B021 in the Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering Building
  • Aerospace Research Laboratory on Observatory Hill

Equipment:

  • HAAS CNC Milling Machine - machinable materials: brass to mild steel
  • Universal Systems Laser Cutter - 18" x 32" (cutting and etching available)
  • Lathes, Drill Presses, & Sheet Metal Shears

Support Offerings:

  • Small research and educational projects utilizing milling, lathe and drilling operations
  • Plates, shafts, brackets, polycarbonate windows, and small instruments
  • Laser cutting acrylic (additional materials require approval)

Pricing:

  • $50.00 per hour
  • Cost of any materials not supplied by requestor
